W. J. Healy Stakes (Gr3)
The W. J. Healy Stakes is a 1200 metre Group 3 Quality Handicap sprint
that is run on Tattersall's race-day at Eagle Farm racecourse, on the final day of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

The W. J. Healy Stakes is named in honour of Mr William J. Healy, the longest serving president of Brisbane’s Tattersall’s Club. William Healy served as president from November 1931 until his death in June 1953 at age 73.
The inaugural running of the W. J. Healy Stakes took place at Eagle Farm Racecourse on August 18,1951 and was won by the New South Wales galloper, Golden Wedge.
The W. J. Healy Stakes is traditionally run at Eagle Farm racecourse along-side the Tattersall’s Cup and the Tatt’s Tiara, on the final day of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.
Although the major Group 1 sprint races have all been completed, the Healy Stakes still draws considerable interest, with many of our top-class sprinters lining up at the carnival’s finale.
Horses the calibre of, Second Earl, Aquanita, Samson, Rashlore, Academy Star, Lord Nelson, Blue’s Finito, Hit It Benny, Tiny’s Finito & Hay List are some of the top-class sprinters who have won the big Tattersall’s sprint.
It is interesting to note that no horse has won the W. J. Healy Stakes more than once.
There is no stand-out for training honours for the W. J. Healy Stakes.
Ten trainers have trained the winner on two occasions each.
Those trainers are: Fred Best, Bill Krafft, Roy Dawson, Tommy Smith, Neville Begg, Bruce McLachlan, Bart Cummings, Tony Vasil, Gordon Yorke & Peter Snowden.
Riding honours are shared three-ways between Mick Dittman, Michael Rodd and Michael Cahill.
