The Galaxy
The AJC Galaxy is a relatively new race when compared to some of the other time-honoured classics of Sydney racing. First run in at Randwick racecourse in 1972 over 5 ½ furlongs, the Galaxy is one of the premier sprint races of the Sydney autumn carnival.
From 1972 to 2012 the
Galaxy was run at Randwick racecourse, the venue was changed to Rosehill racecourse
in 2013 after the Australian Jockey Club and the Sydney Turf Club merged to
form the Australian Turf Club.
The Galaxy was given Group
1 status in 1984.
Grey Receiver
1981/82 is the only horse to have won the Galaxy on more than one occasion.
The most successful rider
of winners in the Galaxy is Peter Cook
with three winners:
